Energy saving with dome skylights (part 2)

The height and width of skylight domes also depends on the exterior of the building or the house. It is usually 4-8% of the floor area. The dome is usually 25% of the skylight. There are different shapes and forms of skylight
domes according to the preference of the owner or the expert that has designed it. Architects are usually more adept in designing these dome skylights because of their knowledge in constructing the best quality and shape that will benefit the owner and at the same time, keep it unique and attractive. If skylight domes were not properly installed, leaking problems may occur that’s why the use of modern designs and proper planning should be considered well.

The main purpose of dome skylights is to provide good lighting. Compared to ordinary windows, they provide a higher amount of light because they distribute light evenly in an open space. dome skylights use the constant visible transmittance (EVT) technology which allows it to adjust the light entering the house or building, come rain or shine. One type which provides the best illumination, called the acrylic dome skylight is the perfect choice for good lighting needs. The bronze acrylic dome skylight is best for people who are sensitive to the light since it has a softening effect on the light pouring in which helps lessen the brightness.

Skylight domes are not only effective for sunny weather. During the rainy season, they can easily shed water out of your roof because of its “self-cleaning” feature. Stagnant water is not a problem anymore. With this characteristic, water will automatically slide down the roof and owners need not to fuss over the rainfall coming into their roofs.

Skylight domes are very much effective for use in places with extreme temperature. The lowest amount of energy transfer is used which makes dome skylights perfect for use in very hot or very cold weather. Depending on the hotness or coldness of the place, a single, double or triple dome can be used. However, double or triple domes are most commonly used and are proven to be most effective in regulating temperature.

It has also been proven by the US Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program that with the use of skylight domes, there is a momentous amount of energy saved compared to the use of electric bulbs. 75-80% of energy can be cut with the use of these domes. A lot of commercial buildings and owners of large houses have also adapted to this architectural design in order to save a lot of money. Maintenance is also reduced since skylight domes need not to be replaced unlike electric bulbs which have to be changed every now and then when they go dim or burst. If skylight domes were properly installed, they could last for a lifetime.

Skylight domes, even though a little costly, are now gaining popularity in different parts of the world, especially in North America. They can bring different benefits to people, and at the same time, enjoy the distinctive design they give to the house or establishment.
